This was perhaps a son of Johann Philipp A. and identical with Johann Philipp Anhuyser who died at Tulbagh in 1796 (according to Mr. C.R. Venter at Tulbagh). BECKER , Peter (S). - Königsberg. *1673, arr. 1695 as so., loaned as farmhand in same year, b. 1697, farmer at Drakenstein. ~Jannetjie de Klerk, wid. Andries Gous. 6 children: Hester, Helena, Stephanus, Dorothea Maria, Martinus, Catharina Margaretha. In 1701 sentenced to be exiled for ten years to Mauritius, for having assaulted the cornet of the burgher-dragoons, Jan Stevens Botma. But he escaped to the interior. In 1710 he was back at Drakenstein. Sentenced in same year to 4 years'hard labour and subsequent banishment to Europe for bestial ill-treatment of his slave, Maria of Ceylon. In Europe, he re-entered the service of the Company and returned, in 1717, to the Cape. At his arrival he was sentenced to be exiled for life to Robben Island, where he died between June 1742 and June 1747. (From/Aus "Kulturanteil": Johann von EEDEN (227) gab, als er sich 1671 am Kap der Guten Hoffnung mit Elisabeth Jansen aus Amsterdam trauen ließ, Oldenburg als sein Herkunftsland an (228). Der Ehe entsproß ein Kind. Nach dem Tod seiner Gattin vermählte sich von Eeden am 13. Juni 1688 mit Anna Russaar, die ihn mit fünf Nachkommen beschenkte. Er wurde Bürger in Stellenbosch und starb 1704.

(From/Aus "Kulturanteil": Johann Gabriel EXTER wurde am 11. Juni 1744 als "Herrn Heinrich Exter, Stadt- und Zinnschreiber, und seiner Eheliebste, Dorothea Salomea, Söhnlein" zu Zweibrücken geboren (1331). Er verdingte sich der HOK und wurde 1779 mit dem Schiffe "De Vrouwe Antonietta Coenradina" nach Südafrika geschickt. Dort hatte er eine glänzende Laufbahn; er wurde sofort nach seiner Ankunft Schreibgehilfe, 1782 Assistent, 1785 Sekretär des Staatsanwaltes und im folgenden Jahre - er hatte inzwischen den Rang eines Unterkaufmannes beantragt - Kommissarischer Staatsanwalt. Als solcher leitete er Untersuchungen und stellte, wenn sich gesetzwidrige Handlungen offenbarten, Strafantrag. Am 27. Januar 1788 hatte er die Holländerin Lodewica Jacoba Stakman, die aus Vlissingen stammte und ihm zwei Erben schenkte, geheiratet; er verschied nach zehnjähriger Ehe.

(From/Aus "Kulturanteil": Matthäus von EITZEN , (1013) aus dem Oldenburger Land (1014) landete 1758 als Soldat von der "Renswoude". Er leistete von 1761 ab Dienste als Klempner und verstand sich auf das Bauen von Mühlen und Pumpen. Aletta Josina Luyt vom Kap wurde am 11.Dezember 1763 seine Gattin. Mehrere Jahre später löste von Eitzen seinen Vertrag mit der H.O.K. 1781 unterzeichnete er eine Eingabe vieler Bürger, in der die neu eingeführten Steuern als zu hoch bezeichnet wurden. Er war um diese Zeit Pächter der Windmühle, die die Bürger versorgte. Im Jahre 1783 erklärten die Bürgerräte anläßlich der Inbetriebsetzung einer weiteren Mühle, daß von Eitzen seinen Posten zur vollen Zufriedenheit der Allgemeinheit verwaltet habe, daß nicht eine einzige Klage über ihn gehört worden sei und daß daher der politische Rat daher eine Verlängerung des Pachtvertrages mit ihm zustimmen möge. Das geschah. Von Eitzens Familie umfaßte neun Kinder (1015)

(From/Aus "Kulturanteil": Karl August FREISLICH wurde am 11. Dezember 1738 als Sohn des Kapellmeisters und ersten Organisten an der Oberpfarrkirche Johann Balthasar Christian Freislich (1029) und dessen Ehefrau Johanna Justina Louisa zu Danzig getauft (1030). Die H.O.K. sandte ihn als 21 jährigen Matrosen auf der "Scholtenburg" nach dem Kap, wo er nach dreijähriger Anwesenheit zum Schreiber aufrückte. Seine Trauung mit der Holländerin Johanna Margaretha van der Stap fand am 13. Oktober 1765 statt. Zehn Jahre später wurde er auf seinen Wunsch seiner Vertragsverpflichtungen enthoben. Er erlangte 1780 die Bürgerpapiere, arbeitete als Bevollmächtigter und Agent für eine Reihe von Leuten und erhielt 1783 das Amt eines Kirchenratsmitgliedes der Lutheraner. Seine Gattin schenkte neun Kindern das Leben.
1029: Johann Balthasar Christian Freislich, der gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts zu Immanuelborn im Meiningschen geboren wurde, war Sproß einer angesehenen Musikerfamilie und erhielt als schaffender wie ausübender Künstler von Rang bereits in jungen Jahren eine Anstellung als Kapellmeister in Sonderhausen. Um 1730 erfolgte seine Berufung nach Danzig. St.A. 2689, Staatsarchiv der Freien Stadt Danzig.

Er gehörte der Besatzung des englischen Segelschiffes "Caesar" an und trat 1745 bei der Landung am Kap in den Kompagniedienst über. Am 28. September 1749 führte er die Kapländerin Jacoba van der Heyden zum Altar und wurde im gleichen Jahre Bürger. Acht Kinder entsprossen dem Bunde.

Nicolai, lutherisch getauft (1050). Als 22jähriger ging er, den Rang eines Kompagniesoldaten führend, in der "Overschie" nach Südafrika, wo er als Schneider verwandt wurde. 1764 errang er seine Selbständigkeit, am 8. März 1788 reichte ihm die Kapländerin Jacoba van der Heyden die Hand fürs Leben. Seine Familie umfaßte 3 Kinder.

In 1788 he was dismissed because he used to drink excessively and neglected his duties. After the death of his successor in 1797, he applied for his former post and held it till 1800. (From/Aus "Kulturanteil": HOYER (766), Wilhelm Ferdinand war zweiter Schiffsarzt auf der "Hector" und erreichte in dieser Eigenschaft 1744 Südafrika. Seine Heimatstadt war Mitau in Kurland. 1748 machte er sich von der Kompagnie unabhängig und ließ sich als Bürgerarzt im Kaplande nieder. 1752 ehelichte er die dort geborene Dorothea van Wyk, die ihm einen Nachkommen bescherte. Zuerst hatte er seine Praxis in Drakenstein. Anfang März 1754 empfing er jedoch ein Stück Bauland mit Garten in der Paarlgegend, wo er ein Haus baute und seine Sprechstunden hielt. Am 31. Mai 1755 forderte der Land- und Gemeinderat des Bezirkes Stellenbosch-Drakenstein Hoyer und seinen Kollegen Wynand Louw auf, Lepraverdächtige zu untersuchen. Es wurden noch zwei Ärzte hinzugezogen. Das Kollegium stellte die tödliche Krankheit an zwei Farmern fest. Auftragsgemäß nahm Hoyer im April 1758 allein eine nochmalige Untersuchung vor. Der Deutsche vermählte sich am Neujahrstage 1758 zum zweiten Male; seine Gattin Abigail Cornelia Nel, vom Kap, gebar ihm zwei Kinder. Um die Mitte des Jahres 1759 kaufte Hoyer von der Gemeinde Stellenbosch ein älteres Gebäude für 300 Gulden (767).
