Past German colonies in Africa

The German Empire joined the race for colonies comparatively late. In the late 1800s it acquired 4 colonies in Africa:
- German Southwest (Namibia)
- German East Africa (now part of Tanzania)
- Cameroon
- Togo
In 1918 Germany lost both the First World War and its colonies.
